What is the best insurance option?
Most car hires provide third party insurance. You are therefore responsible for any accidents or damage to the car. You may for an an insurance which covers cars during your travels however, accidents are rare. Fully comprehensive cars are not essential and the car hire is likely to make you pay for damages anyway. When booking and paying using a VISA credit card, there is a complimentary insurance.

Do you need a car in Seychelles?
A car in Seychelles is highly recommended as the bus system is not very reliable. Buses work off a schedule, when taking the bus from the main station in Victoria, they will leave on time. However, on a bus stop by the road, it may not arrive at the time provided by the schedule and may pass earlier or later. The last bus is at 7pm and peak traffic times (7-8am and 4-5pm) the buses are usually full. There is very limited space on the bus to bring luggage and shopping items.
What are the costs to renting a car in Seychelles?
Cars are usually rented at the prices advertised. Insurance is included and you will either receive an empty or a full tank. A fee of EUR1000 is usually frozen on your account as a security in case there is any damage to the car. This is released after the rental period. You can expect to spend between 5 and 20eur per day on fuel depending on how far you go, if the car is a hybrid and how much aircon you use. Aircon will definitely increase fuel consumption. Fuel is currently around 1.50eur per liter.
What is the best car to get?
An SUV is the best car to drive in the Seychelles. This is because you have a clear view of the road and the road markings. You will avoid drifting off the lane or making the wrong maneuver whilst driving at junctions or round abouts. Moreover, when trying to find a spot to park at the beach, the height of the SUV allows you to park any where you wish without damaging the car off uneven roads, roots and other debris which may be in your way.
How can I rent a car for cheaper?
Contact the car rental directly. Using sites like Kayak and other third parties will increase the cost for the car hire by up to 35% and they will pass this on to you. The car hire may give better prices for longer rental durations and always check which services they provide for free. This is especially important if there is a break down such as a flat tire or an accident.

A small old car over 8 years old which will be unstable at high speeds and possibly have issues with the power windows or other features. Limited boot space for luggage and will not fit more than 1 large luggage. Not recommended for families travelling unless you have very few bags. Great for a budget but uncomfortable for larger passengers. Example Hyundai i10, Hyundai eon.
35-45eur
At this price you typically expect a Hyundai grand i10. This is the most common car you will find in Seychelles, they are compact but spacious inside and generally a decent drive. You may also get a more recently manufactured small car but with less issues. These cars are likely to have issues driving up steep roads and the gear does not feel solid. Consider switching off the aircon when driving up steep roads. These cars have a low CC hence are not as powerful.
45-60eur
These cars may be more recently purchased Hyundai grand i10s, a sedan, or a Suzuki swift or ignis. The Suzukis are great for driving the roads because they have a higher CC and a better feel when driving. They are small cars but the better option in the small car category in terms of driving experience. They are slightly smaller than the grand i10 and you will have limited boot space and low ground clearance so be careful when driving over rocks and broken roads. The sedan is a classic car with more boot space however, they are low riding cars. You may even get an old SUV at this price range, this is usually a Daihatsu Terios. As with older cars you will have the wobbling and the gear at times feeling off.
60-90eur
At this price range you should expect an SUV. SUV's are the vehicles of choice, they are higher, offer great visibility, easy to maneuver in the hills, and reliable. They usually have sizeable boots and good visibility. You may feel intimidated by the size however, the roads in Seychelles are wider than you would expect and having a reverse camera is always a plus.
